[Advice] What specific CRM features are most important to small business?

Just answered a question over on Quora

This question was asked:

"I'm interested to see if small companies (1-10) employees) feel well represented by the CRM options out there."

Each business has different needs for a CRM but the 2 biggest needs are Tracking and Retention.
A business must be able to track where leads and sales are coming from. How much each customer is worth. Which marketing efforts are most effective. So tracking is extremely important. The more they can track about their customers the better.

A business also needs easy steps for customer retention with their CRM. Not only for customers but leads as well. They need to have steps defined that they can take as leads come in, phone calls, emails, etc.

For current customers there needs to be triggers and steps for maintaining a relationship. A common mistake is to focus just on the new customers but the current ones are even more important. Thank you letters, offers, referral requests, etc.

Each business will no doubt have different needs for their industry. But the tracking and retention features are critical.

Hope that helps,
