[Advice] When does contacting a prospective client become excessive?

Hey guys, just answered a question over on Quora

This question was asked:

"We love to be persistent. Especially with clients that could be worth big money to our company, but when is enough - enough?

I'm not looking for the "when they tell you it's enough" answer. I prefer people with actual sales experience and someone with this experience."

When I set up follow up campaigns for clients, we set it up so that the follow up is further apart as time goes on. So when they are fresh and hot there is a lot of follow up taking place. But as more time goes by we add more time in between contacts. But they are never removed from being listed as a lead until they say to never contact again. This rarely happens if done right.

This is not something that is exact for every industry, it depends on the product or service. So we always make adjustments accordingly. But as long as you have a plan for the follow up, you can test and tweak it to perfection. Keep stats on every step so you know what is working and not.

If you plan it out and adjust it based on the results you get, you will eventually have the perfect follow up routine. Keep in mind that it is OK to upset some of the leads. If you are not getting a few complaints here and there, you are not being persistent enough. You can't make everyone happy and you shouldn't try to.

Hope that helps,

- JR
