Hey guys, just answered a question over on Quora
This question was asked:
"Can someone explain what is Guerilla Marketing in layman's terms?"
Guerilla marketing gets its name from guerilla warfare. Guerilla warfare is where smaller armies with not as a big of a budget as a traditional army would go out and use small effective attacks that a traditional army would not be expecting. They can get a lot more done and be lot more effective even though they were smaller, had less resources.
Guerilla marketing is that same tactic, except you’re just going after your market with advertisements. So what you’re doing is – instead of having a big huge traditional marketing budget. You’re using low cost methods to get in front of your market where they wouldn’t expect it. Small rapid attempts where they would not be expecting you to be advertising and you’re putting your name out there. And so they come very effective. Although some of those tactics have become very common and so it doesn’t have the effect it used to have. The idea is to think outside the box, come up with creative ways to get in front of your audience where they wouldn’t expect you to be and that is guerilla marketing. So anytime you’re ignoring the traditional method and putting yourself in front of your audience in a unique way that they wouldn’t expect and has a chance to really have an impact, that’s using guerilla marketing. There’s a tons of examples out there if you just search “guerilla marketing” you’ll find a ton of sites that list out some different methods because there are a ton of them.Hope that helps you out.- JR
