Hey guys, just posted this on a forum thread over at Quora
This question was asked:
"Due the latest update of Google, my client's site traffic is down, he is using two same domains for different countries, is exact domain match update has to do something with this?"
An Exact Match Domain is a domain that exactly matches the keyword. So if you were trying to rank for "purple shelled turtles" having purpleshelledturtles.com would be an Exact Match Domain or EMD.
In the past Google has given a lot of authority to EMD's. But spammers have used this as a method to create garbage sites and still get a high ranking becasue their domain was an exact match.
So Google's update is giving less authority to EMD's which means that they don't rank as easy.
Most likely there are other issues with why your sites may have dropped. There were other updates that rolled out at the same time.
Hope that helps,
- JR
