[Adivice] Is it possible to rank websites localy? and how?

Hey guys, just answered a question over on Quora

This question was asked:

"Is it possible to do seo to rank websites locally, for example i want my english website (.com) to rank well in canada because it is a canadian market specific service, or england or you get the picture...how to do that?"

There are a few different things you can do but that all depends on if you have a global site or a site specifically for Canada.

If you have a global site, make sure that the fact that you have products or services available in Canada is mentioned.

Google Webmaster tools also has some options for you.

If you have a site specific to Canada, you may want to get a .ca domain. This could be smart to do anyway. Having a Canadian domain will be the most effective step you can take to rank well over there.

You should also get listed in some Canadian directories.

And as with any site, competitive research should also give you some ideas on how to rank well there.

Hope that helps,

- JR
