[Advice] Jeff Ferguson of Fang Digital Marketing stated today in Performance Insider that "SEO wasn't dead, but it needs to die." (http://performinsider.com/2012/10/seo-needs-to-die/). Do you agree?

Hey guys, just answered a question over on Quora

This question was asked:

"Jeff Ferguson of Fang Digital Marketing stated today in Performance Insider that "SEO wasn't dead, but it needs to die." (http://performinsider.com/2012/10/seo-needs-to-die/). Do you agree?"

Generally statements like these come from only looking at the bad side of SEO. The spam side of it. Google creates rules for SEO for a reason, it's not a bad thing. Abusing it is bad. So no it does not need to die. Google is working to ensure that more are playing by the rules though. Unfortunately that also can hurt the ones who are playing by the rules.

SEO will never die. As long as there is a search engine to rank on, there will be ways to optimize for it.
