Lots of great answers here so I will keep mine short.
If your customers are online searching for a product or service you offer, then your site better be optimized so that Google and Bing know that you offer those items. Aside from onsite optimization, you should be involved in offsite optimization. When someone is searching for what you have to offer them, you want to be in the top links on page 1. If not, you don't exist to them.But, be careful to follow the rules. Breaking them may have short term gains but in the end will be a problem.Hope that helps,- JR
