Hey Eric, lots of good answers here, I just feel you probably need some better clarification.
Landing Page - Pretty much any page on a website that a visitor would land on. However, it is typically a page that is landed on from an ad or link from somewhere. So you would normally use the term "landing page" when referring to a page that you are puposely sending people to. You wouldn't refer to just any page as a landing page.
If you were running a coupon or an offer which required its own page, this would be where you use a landing page. You want this page to specifically be about the offer that lead them there. This can a page on your site or a page all by itself. Good copy is essential on a landing page to convert the visitor.
Squeeze Page - A squeeze page is a page all by itself, nothing else but copy and an optin or button to purchase, etc. They can do nothing else but complete the offer (optin, purchase, etc.), or they can leave. You are "squeezing" them into your offer. So this should not be a page on your site that is part of the site template with navigation and all. You want just that page and the copy and offer.
So as some have said here, they can be the same thing. But it is important to understand the difference. Specifically with a squeeze page. You can still use a regular page on your site for optins and offers. But to truly be a squeeze page, it should be a page with nothing but copy (or video) and the action step they are supposed to take (generally an optin). No other links.
By the way, landing pages are great for all your marketing efforts. Sending someone to just the main page is not going to convert as high as a good landing page. For instance, if you are running Google PPC ads, you can directly reference that they found you on Google on that page. Just use that page only for the PPC ads. This also helps with tracking.
Landing pages also help with converting prospects to go to the site. For instance, if I was running an ad or offer for a particular home community, I could do website.com/communityname. You'll get more results by using the landing page in a personal way.
Hope that helps,
- JR
